I.  Catalog Description and Credit Hours of Course:

Course will examine fundamental personal finance issues.  Topics will include budgeting, investments, insurance, consumer credit (auto and home financing), taxes and retirement planning.  Process for calculating a personal net worth will studied and applied.  Personal financial environments of U.S. and European will be compared.   In addition to text internet sources will be used extensively. (3 credit hours)

None

III. Course Learning Objectives:

  1. To provide the student with the opportunity to learn and apply the concepts and techniques of personal financial management to real world situations.    

  2. To emphasize the importance of personal financial management to the individual.

  3. To develop analysis and solving skills. Develop the ability to formulate workable plans of actions.

  4. Written communication skills.

  3. Recommended: Financial calculator.  Instructor will not provide a tutorial on calculator use.
